What is a Life Event?

A life event typically refers to a significant change in your personal circumstances that affects your life, including but not limited to:

  • Death;

  • Birth of a child; and

  • Marriage

These events allow employees who have selected benefits to make changes midyear, rather than waiting for the usual renewal period which is typically annual.

Below is a list of the life events that apply:

  • Birth/Adoption/Returning to work after maternity leave;

  • Death of Spouse/Partner/Child;

  • Marriage/Civil Partnership;

  • Divorce/Separation;

  • Moving home;

  • Secondment overseas/Return from overseas secondment;

  • Salary change;

  • Promotion; and

  • Redundancy of partner

This list may be subject to change.

Please note that these are the standard life events recognised by Ben, where reopening the enrolment window for you to make selections typically does not require additional approval (though individual circumstances may vary).

Additionally, while these life events apply to most benefits, some restrictions may still apply. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact the Support team—they'll be happy to assist!
